SIMPLE INGREDIENTS
We only need 4 ingredients to make this gluten-free puff pastry snack! Prepare your shopping list!
Egg – They will be used as what we call “egg wash” to brush over the Puff Pastry to create a rich, golden sheen when baked. If you don’t eat eggs you can use any type of milk (cow’s milk or any plant based milk). You can also simple brush the pastries with oil.
Puff Pastry Sheet – There are recipes on how to make gluten-free puff pastry sheet. The ones that I’ve read were really complicated and I ended up never trying. If I learn how to make them I’ll definitely post here the recipe and step by step. For now, I’m buying puff pastry from my local supermarket. If you are in Ireland, I’m finding them at TESCO and DUNNES. I’ve only seen 2 different brands available. Jus-Rol and Galberts. I never felt any difference between these brands when baking, so I have no preference. Some puff pastry suggest that you let it in room temperature for 10 minutes before using it. I usually never wait. When I opened up the sheet once, I noticed it was breaking easier, but it didn’t interfere with the food preparation or baking.
Cheese – I like to use red cheddar and mozzarella mix because it’s not too salty and has a nice flavour. The puff pastry is quite salty in my opinion, so I like to have a balance. You can use any other type of cheese or vegan cheese as well.
Burger – for this recipe, I’m using The Mighty Mushroom Co. burgers. I’m actually addicted to their burger, the flavour is perfect. I’ve tried with their sausages before and also taste amazing, but I think the burger tastes better.
